SALVAGE STOCK

Please note: These items are non-returnable and will be dispatched within 8-10 working days.

Our relentless pursuit of perfection can often bite us in the behind and leave us with pieces that are unable to have their moment of glory. A missing popper, poor quality stitching or a wash that wasn’t quite right are some of the reasons they just don’t cut it.

These misfits are still created with the same love and attention you’d expect from &SONS and now is your chance to own a one-of-a-kind.

The &SONS Salvage Stock gives every piece its time in the spotlight and avoids it being sent to the great outlet in the sky. Anything that isn’t chosen will be sent to a recycling unit but we believe these unique garments deserve a home in your wardrobe!  So explore the sale and be quick, they won’t be around for long.

BOARDWALK PEACOAT

The iconic and dependable Boardwalk Peacoat is a pioneer favourite, and this small batch didn’t quite make the cut when they arrived at our warehouse. These items have been classed as “Factory Seconds”, we’d never sell anything that wasn’t functional and each one has been hand checked by our Garment Technology Team to ensure they’re still fit to find a new home.

WHY ARE THEY SECONDS?

Every item of this small batch is different and issues are not common on all items. These are all ex-samples so maybe some cosmetic issue(s), for example; it may not have fully branded trims, or there may be some snags or imperfections in the fabric. From classic to contemporary, throughout history, the peacoat is now a staple in so many of our wardrobes and, as the temperatures drop, we reach for this Naval masterpiece that creates a silhouette like no other. Originally adorned by the Dutch in the early 1800s and known as the 'pijjekker' because of its coarse woollen fabric used in the construction. Although its origins are rooted with the Dutch, it was, in fact, the British that popularised the famous coat as part of their Naval uniform.

As the peacoat made its way across the pond, the US Navy introduced it into their uniform and it was quickly adopted by ‘reefers’. This only highlights the versatility of the coat as reefers were the brave men who climbed the tall rigging of sailing ships, braving the harsh winds and rain. Form and function made the ultimate partnership with the peacoat which has been its success through the decades.

The high collars, double-breasted fastening and mid-length cut allowed sailors alike to move comfortably around the boat as they carried out their duties. Every iteration contains these design features, with brands making only minor changes to the design to retain the silhouette – if it ain't broke…

The pijjekker – in which 'pij' refers to the type of cloth used, a coarse kind of twilled blue cloth, and 'jekker' describes a man’s short, heavy, coat – is the original name of what is now known across the world as the Peacoat. Famed for its origins in the military, the Peacoat's history begins as early as the 1720s and features in nearly every surplus uniform in various guises. A longer cut often referred to as a 'Bridge Coat' was only worn by officers and often adorned with gold buttons.
