The V-neck emerged in the 1920s where athletic function met the formal dress codes of the day. Its open neckline gave golfers, tennis players and cricketers greater freedom of movement while still accommodating the mandatory collared shirt and tie.

It soon moved beyond the sports field and, by mid-century, had become a relaxed alternative to the waistcoat, worn by the likes of Steve McQueen with an easier, less formal attitude.

The Bay carries that influence forward in fine 14-gauge cotton, with a bold contrast V-neck and cuffs, a tonal hem and pearl-stitch detailing at the elbows.
