&SONS: How do you approach fishing?

Atsushi: So you never fish immediately when you get the place. You have to observe around you. It’s super important understanding what’s happening around you. The wind and temperature and you’re observing insects and of course, super important. It’s nothing happens when you fish immediately. Be patient.

&SONS: You’ve said your day is a “constant flow of creativity.” Can you explain?

Atsushi: My day is a constant flow of creativity, whether it’s music, or fishing, or style, I’m always creating.

&SONS: How do you think about style?

Atsushi: For me, style is like a second skin. It’s ever-evolving, always personal. And denim, in particular, has a lot of those characteristics. My style is just what I like, an emotional expression of who I am.

&SONS: When did music become an important part of your life?

Atsushi: I really got into music during high school, in the mid-80s, when electro and hip-hop began to emerge in Japan. I was hooked by the collage-like nature of hip-hop, it made me feel like I want to be part of this.

&SONS: What does life and style feel like for you now?

Atsushi: I’m 56 and I definitely feel I kind of comfortable myself. I want to make the most of what life offers and as something meaningful even down to this story carried by a pair of jeans.
