On Tuesday 18 August we're running a sashiko denim repair workshop at The Lucky Saint, W1. Ten spaces, £25 a ticket, including a pint of Lucky Saint and all the materials you need to complete your first repair.

In the spirit of our Threads & Heads community, the evening is designed as a relaxed space for men to slow down, learn a practical skill and share good conversation with like-minded pioneers.

Simply bring along a pair of jeans in need of some attention. Sashiko is suitable for the vast majority of fabric repairs - think knees, pockets, seams but not zips. And if you don't have an imminent repair, but want to prepare, we'll have denim swatches to practise on for when the time inevitably comes.

Showing you how is Cosmin Diaconu, founder of Repair My Denim. He's spent years bringing jeans back from the brink, and he'll guide you through the whole process.

The idea is simple. Come along, learn a skill, and enjoy a couple of hours of slow time and conversation.

WHAT IS SASHIKO?

Sashiko was pioneered by Japanese farming and fishing families for whom cloth was too precious to throw away. They reinforced jackets with rows of simple running stitches, and garments were mended and handed down, every repair adding strength and story. Necessity became craft, and it's still considered by many as the best answer to a worn knee or a torn pocket.

Steady, unhurried and oddly hard to put down once you've got the knack. It's a fine way to spend an evening.
