Introducing

Between takes on Bullitt, on set and among the cars from that famous chase, McQueen killed time playing frisbee. No holster. No tweed. Just a plain white V-neck and a pair of Persols. The King of Cool, off the clock.

The Frank V-neck is our version of that tee. The V-neck started out as an undergarment, cut low to sit unseen beneath an open collar. By the sixties it had come out into the open, worn in its own right as a cleaner alternative to the crew, popularised partly by the flattering effect the shape has on the neck and jawline.

“Mostly I spend my bread on the basics – a good house, good food, good cars.” [Steve McQueen]

There was barely a gap between Steve McQueen and Frank Bullitt. The characters wardrobe was largely based on his own. He wasn't dressing for a part. The part had been designed around him.

Off screen, McQueen was starting to favour plainer styles. Worn-in sneakers, knit tops, simple tees. The V-neck he wore in '68 was ahead of its time. For decades it had been an undergarment, kept out of sight beneath a collar, and was only just starting to be worn openly, as a tee in its own right.
