Manual For Life: How To Style a Gilet

The FLAK Gilet is the first of its kind in our SURPLUS collection and is proven to be the most practical solution to layering in the colder seasons.

From Steve McQueen and Paul Newman to military uniforms and elite mountaineers, the gilet is a versatile and dependable garment that can work for any occasion.

WESTERN EDGE

The gilet is crafted from Army Green tough ripstop fabric to ensure that it can handle the rugged outdoors. This style is inspired by the ranch hands of Montana, with the gilet providing an unrestricted range of movement, perfect for hard work.

We have chosen to layer it over our Raw Henley, Denim Sunday Shirt and match it with our hardwearing Tan Chinos and Brown Leather Drover Boots. For accessories, we’ve added our printed bandana and the Montana Hat to keep away the sun.

SURPLUS STYLE

Doubling as a warm layer in colder climates and a lightweight shell in Autumn the gilet is a piece you can wear all year round. During Spring, the warm wadding means you only need to wear a comfortable Henley T-shirt underneath. Our SURPLUS Collection harbours earthy, tactical tones and is all interchangeable creating easy-to-layer styles.

Start with a base layer like our Raw Henley and layer the FLAK Gilet and jacket over the top. On particularly cold days we recommend throwing on our Surplus Jacket as an extra layer – giving you both form, function and style with the harmonious green tones. Pair with our Army Pants and Baseline sneakers and you’re ready to head outdoors.

STREETWEAR

For something comfortable to wear around town, a gilet is also a great option. A relaxed, streetwear style is ideal for meeting friends to finishing chores.

Choose a white t-shirt and pair it with our soft grey Track & Field Hoodie. Our gilet has a low-cut neckline allowing it to sit comfortably over a hoodie without pulling at the hood itself. Pull on your favourite Brandon jeans and our canvas Baseline High Tops and you’ve got a warm, casual style with a modern, city-chic feel.
