CLOTHING FOR PIONEERS

INTRODUCING

Meet the Palmer Cardigan, a piece that blends classic charm with modern craftsmanship. Inspired by the enduring legacy of traditional knitwear, this cardigan pays homage to the historical roots of the garment while embracing contemporary style.

Crafted from supersoft lambswool spun in Scotland by the esteemed Todd & Duncan, the Palmer Cardigan offers unparalleled warmth and comfort. The rich brown hue and elegant knit reflect the cardigan's origins, tracing back to the 19th-century British aristocracy where it was first popularised.

Attention to detail is paramount in the Palmer Cardigan. The Cotswold British-made buttons from Courtney and Co. add a touch of authentic craftsmanship. The pockets feature ribbed edges, providing both function and style, while the turn-back cuffs offer a refined finish. Hand-linked raglan seams ensure a flawless fit and superior durability.

Whether worn over a crisp shirt or layered for added warmth, the Palmer Cardigan is a versatile addition to any wardrobe. It blends rustic authenticity with sophisticated design, capturing the essence of heritage knitwear in a modern context.

ORIGINS

The cardigan sweater, named after James Brudenell, the 7th Earl of Cardigan, emerged in the early 19th century. The Earl, a British Army officer, is reputed to have worn a knitted garment similar to the modern cardigan during the Crimean War (1853-1856). This style of sweater was initially designed for practicality and warmth for soldiers.

By the late 19th century, the cardigan transitioned from military wear to a fashionable item. It was popularised in the 1920s and 1930s as a casual and versatile garment, suitable for both men and women. The cardigan's design typically features an open front with buttons, which allows for easy layering over shirts and blouses.

Over the decades, the cardigan has been embraced in various fabrics and styles, from lightweight cotton to warm wool. Its adaptability has solidified its place as a classic and enduring piece in both casual and formal wardrobes.
