INTRODUCING

The Livingstone Twill Shirt is a substantial cotton shirt designed to sit between a shirt and a light overshirt. Cut with a relaxed fit, it’s built for movement, layering, and regular wear.

Made from 315gsm cotton twill, the fabric carries real weight and texture without stiffness. Garment dyed after construction, the khaki colour has depth and variation rather than a flat, uniform finish, and will continue to change with wear.

Utility details define the build: a flap chest pocket with button fastening, an integrated pencil channel, and a shaped back yoke for structure. Herringbone side seam gussets reinforce high-stress areas, finished with hand-embroidered “&” detailing. An internal hanging loop and surplus Tyvek label complete the shirt without excess.

ORIGINS

Surplus shirts were originally developed as hard-wearing, repeat-use garments, cut to allow movement and built from dense woven cottons that could withstand daily demands. Weight, reinforcement and pocket placement were driven by function rather than appearance.

The Livingstone Twill Shirt follows that history closely. A heavy cotton twill forms the foundation, supported by surplus-led construction details and a relaxed cut that reflects how these garments were worn and used. Garment dyeing adds depth from the outset, allowing the shirt to continue evolving through wear rather than remaining fixed.
